Classes Class Descriptions

Mommy and Me

Caregiver and child will have fun exploring with balls, streamers, scarves and more to fun sing along songs. (This class is not currently on the schedule.) If you are interested in the class please contact keally@southtulsadanceco.com

Creative Movement

Children will learn to interact with other children while following the directions of the instructor. This class will include props such as a balance beam, scarves, hoola hoops, balls and more.

Ballet/Tap

Introduction to ballet and tap will include a basic class that introduces children to elementary positions, steps and choreography. Tap dance is a type of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion.

Ballet/Jazz

Introduction to ballet and jazz will include a basic class that introduces children to elementary positions, steps and choreography. Jazz is a dance form that is faster paced and uses fun, kid friendly music.

Jazz/Tap

Tap dance is a type of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion.

Ballet

A classical dance form demanding grace and precision and employing formalized steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement.

Pointe

Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. A dancer is said to be en pointe when the dancer's body is supported in this manner, and a fully extended vertical foot is said to be en pointe when touching the floor, even when not bearing weight. *by approval only and must be in ballet 3 days per week minimum.

Jazz

Jazz is a rhythmic, percussive dance form seen primarily in commercial venues such as Broadway shows, The Academy Awards, and music videos. Classic jazz and today’s popular jazz techniques will be introduced and explored.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motions that tell a story. Students will learn lyrical technique along with how to express emotion through movement. Ballet class is also recommended.

Choreography

All styles will be taught in this class with weekly choreography given. Improvisation techniques will also be explored in class.

Jumps/Turns  

Technique based class that will focus on jumps and turns in the center and across the floor combinations.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a loose jazz form sometimes referred to as funk and is often seen in music videos. Upbeat, high energy, and rhythmic combinations focusing on body isolations and smooth or sharp movements.

Strong Bodies  

Cross training for the dancer includes cardio, strength, Pilates and more

Tumbling

Intro-Advanced we will get your dancer comfortable tumbling without a mat.

Acro

Class focuses on strength, control and flexibility.

S-T-R-E-T-C-H

The use of bands, blocks and body strength to focus on increasing flexibility for the int/adv dancer.

Boom Booms

4-6 years competition team competes at 3 local competitions. Contact us for more information.

Bloom

7 years and up competition team competes at 3 local competitions. Great for beginners that are wanting to advance in their dance training more than at the recreational level. Contact us for more information.

Lil Mindz

8 years and up hip hop competition team competes at 3 local competitions and attends 1 convention. Great for intermediate dancers that are wanting to advance in their training more than at the recreational level. Contact us for more information.

THRIVE
